Musical Quaternity is analogous to the Four Elements. Here are the players:
The musical quaternity for this blog includes melody, harmony, rhythm and counterpoint.
The four elements are alchemical. They comprise earth, air fire and water. On the wheel of the zodiac they each occur in rotation three times. This covers the 12 zodiac signs.
Analogy (from Greek ἀναλογία, analogia, “proportion”) is a cognitive process of transferring information or meaning from a particular subject – the analog or source, to another. It has been argued that analogy is “the core of cognition”.
Air is counterpoint. It represents the quality of reason. Counterpoint requires structure, rules and thought. Alchemists thought that air contains the vital spirits of life. The words for spirit and psyche come from the same Greek word: ” From from Greek psykhe “the soul, mind, spirit; breath; life, one’s life. It is the invisible animating principle or entity. The psyche occupies and directs the physical body; understanding It is akin to psykhein “to blow, cool,” from PIE root *bhes- “to blow, to breathe”.
Alchemist Heating a Pot, by David Teniers the Younger (1610 – 1690), oil on canvas.
Harmony is more like the combined, unified yet undifferentiated background. Harmony is the vertical aspect or sound of musical. It represents the combination of sounds at any given moment. Those qualities parallel water. Counterpoint is the horizontal direction of various lines the harmony holds. The two are thus interconneted. horizontal axis.
Melody is tied to rhythm. You cannot have melody without rhythm. In alchemy, fire represents maximum molecular activity. Earth is minimum activity. It is grounded. With the vertical axis, fire rise. Rhythm gives melody shape and purpose. It provides the substance of melody. They are interconnected as the vertical axis.
Periodic Chart Harmony Favors the Octave Interval. In music, an octave (Latin: octavus: eighth) or perfect octave is the interval between one musical pitch and another with half or double its frequency. It is defined by ANSI as the unit of frequency level when the base of the logarithm is two. The octave relationship is a natural phenomenon that has been referred to as the “basic miracle of music”, the use of which is “common in most musical systems”.
So where is the periodic chart harmony of the octave?
Here is a quote from blog #400. It is also about the periodic chart.
The system begins with hydrogen-1. The next vertical element is Lithium-3. So, 3-1 = 2. This is the first coding number on the chart.
Lithium is atomic number 3. Sodium is 11. By subtraction 11 – 3 = 8. Sodium has 8 more protons than lithium.
Potassium has 19 protons. Sodium has 11. We see another 8 protons by subtraction. As, 19 – 11 = 8.
Next, Rubidium has 37 protons. Potassium has 19. We have our 1st 18 proton difference: 37 – 19 = 18.
Cesium is atomic number 55. Rubidium is atomic number 37. Thus, 55 -37 = 18.
That is followed by a 32 proton number difference. Francium is atomic number 87. Cesium is 55. Thus, 87 – 55 is a 32 number difference.
The chart finds periodic or repeating properties with atomic numbers 2, 4, 18, and 32. The first vertical row sets the pattern. Periodic chart harmony is found with these numbers. Simply write the 2 to 1 interval of the octave as follows. 2/1, 4 /2, 6/3, 8/4. The number of each fraction expresses an octave when multiplied as:
2 x 1 = 2
4 x 2 = 8
6 x 3 = 18
8 x 4 = 32.
Blogs on DSOworks.com are attempting to place our planet in harmony with the cosmos. Pythagoras saw the basic unity of music with our world. He defined it by string lengths. If one string was 2 x as long as the other, the shorter sounded an octave higher to the longer. An octave is (1) The most harmonious interval. It is also the most “perfect” of the perfect intervals. (2) It is also the first overtone in the series of overtones. Why not take the musical view of our cosmos? For those who are interested, I’m offering piano lessons in Sarasota.
Vast Ancient Temple Plan is Based on Music. The outer hexagon is greater than the inner by the ratio of 3/2. That is the ratio of the higher note of a perfect fifth to the lower in terms of vibrations per second. First, what is the Ancient Temple Plan?
It is a master blueprint used since prehistoric times for measuring temples by musical ratios. It is based on musical tones and geometry. Numbers used in the plan are those enumerating vibrations per second of the various tones of the ancient diatonic scale. The geometry used is based on the central circle of the seven as in the featured picture. It is crossed by three equidistant diameters through central point “D”. In the ancient temple plan, any one of these three diameters ( FE, RG or LK) equals 352.
Why 352 by number only with no attached measures? The answer in a word is gematria. So what is gematria? /ɡəˈmeɪ.tri.ə/ originated as an Assyro-Babylonian-Greek system of alphanumeric code/cipher later adopted into Jewish culture that assigns numerical value to a word/name/phrase in the belief that words or phrases with identical numerical values bear some relation to each other or bear some relation to the number itself as it may apply to Nature, a person’s age, the calendar year, or the like.
In Judaism word appear together in the Torah. They are milk and honey. They have a combined gematria of 352. These key words appear in a prime place: Deuteronomy 6:3. With the very next line, being, Deuteronomy 6:4, we find the opening 6 words of the most sacred prayer in Judaism- the “Shema Yisroel”.
So where is the music? The tone “F” above what we would call middle “C” vibrates in the diatonic scale at the rate of 352 times per second. This equals the 352 Hebrew gematria by letters of “milk and honey. The old diatonic “Middle “C” vibrated 264 times per second. “C”. The next higher octave, 528 “C”, is one octave higher than middle “C”. This higher “C” is also in the ancient temple plan. Each side of the larger hexagon measures 528 by number. Ancient unearthed instruments prove the vibrations per second of the notes or tones of this diatonic scale.
Vast Ancient Temple Plan Holds the 3/2 Musical Fifth Ratio
Let’s look at the following for a model. Refer to the featured picture to read the lines by letters.
Triangle MPD forms an equilateral triangle. Each side is 352.
Extend DP to point “O”
Or extend DM to point “N”
In a view of the vast ancient temple plan, an inclusive new triangle is defined by DNO. It includes DMP. Thus DNO than DPM by the ratio of 3/2. We see that 352 x 3/2 = 528. We now have a second tone in terms of vibrations per second. The “C” 528 vibrations per second is one octave higher than the diatonic middle “C” of 264 vibrations per second. This is significant because in ancient and modern systems, all tuning is based on fifths. Music by numbers applied to vibrations per second of music tones fill the ancient temple plan. Its inclusion of the ratios of perfect harmony calls for the following: Rebuilding the sites all over the world that were once conceived by this plan. Future blogs as well as some already on the website will cover or have already covered this topic.
The goal of building by the math of sound pleasing ratios of musical tones was to have the same ratios please the visual sense in architecture. These qualities need to find their way into our collective culture.
Octahedron Unifies Space Time in Ancient Cultures. It does so from an Earthly viewpoint. First of all, what is an octahedron? It is one of the 5 regular polyhedrons. The other 4 are the tetrahedon, icosahedron, cube and dodecahedron. However you view any one of them, it is totally symmetrical. . Together they are also called the Five Platonic Solids. How is the octahedron identified? By its number corners, edges and faces. It has the following:
These total 26 topological features. See the featured picture above
The octahedron has a non- identical twin brother (or sister). It is called a cube. They don’t look alike. But consider this. The cube has:
The twelve edges are the same in both. Whereas, the number of faces and corners trade places. They are as closely connected as twins. The octahedron pictured below contains a cube. The 6 corners of the octahedron have their points touching the center on the 6 faces of the cube. For that reason, they are called dual polyhedrons.
So How is it That the Octahedron Unifies Space Time?
Unfortunately, the Egyptian Library at Alexandria was burned down. Its wisdom describing prehistory was destroyed. Both the cube and octahedron were considered to be harmonious figures. This thought actually goes back to at least 11,000 B.C. Why harmonious? Because of the numerical relationship of its topology.
12 is one-third greater than 8
6 is one-third less than 8.
Eight is the number that defines the musical octave. That is the most harmonious and fundamental overtone of the entire overtone series. Guy Murchie thoroughly explains this in his two volumes of The Music of the Spheres.
How Does This Knowledge Date Back to Prehistoric Times?
The holiest sites of antiquity were designed as cubes or square base pyramids. The square base upright pyramid is found in the top half of the octahedron. Although the bottom half is not there, it is implied. As a cube, the Biblical Holy of Holies was set in back third of Solomon’s Temple. The total rectangular perimeter of the temple was 60 x 20 cubits. The 20 x 20 cubit back third becomes cubic. Also, the Ka-aba in Arabic literally means, cube.
Much of the world order of antiquity was destroyed. The cause was invaders from Afghanistan. The invaders were called Kurgans. Riane Eisler discusses this her The Chalice and the Blade.
What was the purpose of these Holy Sites? – To spread harmony and peace throughout the world. This was effected by their geometric harmony. Since many were destroyed, war has ensued. In unity we find peace. In division we find war. The octahedron unifies space time. It defines space as a geometric form. How does it define time? Each vertex of the regular triangles holds 60°. The 4 upper triangles of the octahedron have a total of 12 vertices. 12 x 60° = 720°. The lower 4 triangles total 12 vertices. They also total 720°. The upper 4 triangles represent the 720 minutes in 12 hours of daytime at the equinox. The lower 4 triangles represent 720 minutes contained in 12 hours of nighttime also marked by the equinox.
Conclusion: Look for harmonious models. Base civilization on these models. Peace follows. The ancients did in through geometry. The same can also help us today.
Clues in the Search for Atlantis Come With Numbers 5 and 6. The story of Atlantis comes to us from Timaeus, a Socratic dialogue, written in about 360 B.C. by Plato. In Timaeus 5 and 6 are featured as follows: People were gathered every 5th and 6th years alternately: Thus giving equal honor to odd and even numbers. The gathering of the population was for judgement and atonement.
The Clues are Here about how 5 and 6 Were brought together in the Distant Past to Create Peace
Five and Six were unified by a Neolithic measure called megalithic yard. It is 2.72 feet. Professor A. Thom of Oxford University discovered it in the late 1960’s. It’s use was worldwide. Below is the formula for the measure. The product below was then taken as feet. The 12 inch foot is of great antiquity. It is not an anachronism, The cubic inch of gold was a standard unit of weight in Sumeria, Babylon and Greece. Examples can currently be found at the British Museum. A cube has 12 edges. Thus, 12 edges x 1 inch = 1 foot. Very important: note how 5 and 6 alternate in the formulas below. This gives equal honor to odd and even numbers.
5 x 6/ 5 + 6 = 2.727272……the numbers of the megalithic yard
The 2.72 foot measure was also projected by the Egyptian Canon of measures. I think the MY’s relationship of 5 to 6 was rediscovered by myself? The Egyptian formula was expressed differently. The megalithic yard was: the square root of 5 x 1.2165 foot Egyptian remen = 2.72 feet.
Israel Partakes of the 5 and 6 Tradition for Peace.
Six is obvious. It is the 6-pointed Star of David on the flag is Israel. Finding the 5 involves gematria. This is a word that expresses the total unity the numbers and letters once had. There were no separate letter and number systems. Israel in Hebrew translates to 541 (יִשְׂרָאֵל). One (1) was often added to words for the presence of God. The tradition was called colel. How does that relate to number five? A pentagon (five-sided, plane geometrical figure) has 540 degreees. The the 540 defines the pentagon’s five sides. Again, odd and even numbers are given honor equally. This is through the pentagon that expressed Israel and hexagon that is formed its Star of David.
A SURPRISING APPEARANCE OF 5 AND 6 IN A MAYAN UNIT OF MEASUREMENT – THE HUNAB
Units of measure in the past had longer and shorter values. The example of ratio of 175 to 176 ratio of measure was almost universal. John Michell gives examples in his New View Over Atlantis. Here’s the connection of the hunab with 5 and 6: (6 x 6 x 6) + (5 x 5 x 5) = 341. That figure, as 3.41 feet for the hunab, is within 98.7% of the value of the shorter hunab. It is based on the 175 ratio of 3.456 feet. Some units of measure even had three expressions: Such was the Egyptian cubit. The longer was 1.728 feet, A middle sized one was 1.72 feet. The shorter Egyptian cubit was 1.81818…feet.
The Clues: How the Egyptians Interacted 5 and 6
The longer Egyptian cubit was 1.728 feet.It was expressed through the two feature numbers: 6 x 6 x 6 feet/ 5 x 5 x 5 feet = 1.728 feet.
Conclusion: Consecutive whole numbers are a great part of harmony. And, 5 and 6 were brought together in harmonious measurement. Harmonious numbers, interacting in such low whole number ratios, produce beautiful sounds. 2:1 is the octave, 2:3 , is the fifth, 3:4 was the fourth. 4:5 was the third. It’s time to place harmonious ratios back into civilization: Be it through music, art, and architecture. Hopefully, it will rub off on us.
How Harmony and Measure Hide in God’s Hebrew Names: God has two primary names in the Torah. The Creator is called Elohim אֱלֹהִים . The revealed God to Moses, Yahweh as יְהֹוָה. Names are aspects of God. God has 7 primary names in the Torah. These have 70 manifestations. The total is 7 + 70 = 77.
HOW NUMBERS AND LETTERS SHARE A UNITY IN HEBREW
Ancient Hebrew has no separate number system. A letter and a number shared the same symbol. Contrarily, in English we have letters of the alphabet. Then we also have digits.
Every word in Hebrew had a numerical equivalent. Thus, the Hebrew letters for Elohim total 86. The Hebrew letters for Yahweh total 26.
Letters in words were pyramided to obscure meanings: The the four letter name of God is an example that in pyramided style became: Yud = 10; yud + hei = 15; yud + hei + vav = 21; yud + hei + vav + hei = the full 72. The total of the pyramided name of Yahweh is 72.
In the same manner, Elohim, when spelled with pyramided letters totals 200.
You can compare the concept of these secrets within secrets to the Russian Matryoshka doll.
These pyramided values of these primary names of God total 272 as 72 + 200 = 272.
The Tie in of God With Harmony and Measure
Plato discusses how 272 was the great number of harmony. Read my previous blog on DSOworks.com entitled Harmony’s Number for the background.
In measure one megalithic yard = 2.72 feet
Multiply the two hidden names of God and we obtain the total number of 12 inch feet in the classic megalithic mile. It is found all over the ancient world: 72 x 200 = 14,400.
Finally, on the background of number 77 given above: In Hebrew the numerical equivalent of “luck” מזל. Numerically it totals 77. This number doubles God’s 7 primary names with 70 manifestations. In no uncertain terms, all luck comes from God. To have luck is to have the blessings of God. As strongly as we wish for luck, so should we court His blessings. How Harmony and Measure Hide in God’s Hebrew Names– I hope your expectation has been fulfilled.
Harmony in a Neolithic and Modern Site. The south temple at Tarxien is one of the oldest temples that still exists. It dates back to 3,500 B.C. Neighboring inhabitants worshiped the goddess. Over 5,000 years later, another site was built using the same units of measure, the old Hatfield House in Hertfordshire, England. Here’s how:
Plato refers to the 272 as the number of harmony in his Canon. Harmonia was the wife of Cadmus. Her name in Greek was spelled with the letters that added up to 272.
It is a masonic number. A rod of brickwork is 272 square feet.
The old Hatfield House in Hertfordshire, England is 272 feet long. Even though is is called “old”‘ it was built circa 1611, over 5,000 years after the Malta temple.
The triangle in the picture below holds my book:The Sacred Engineers’ Philosophy- the Pinnacle of Thought in the Unified Culture of Ancient Builders. It defines the basic megalithic yard of 2,72 feet.
The temple at Tarxien and the Hatfield House are part of the same tradition. This tradition encompasses many cultures worldwide.
Harmony as 272 is also Built into Ancient Language
The Hebrew word for “Hebrew” has a three letter root: ayin, reisch, veis. It means to cross or pass over; as Abraham came from Ur to start the Hebrew nation. The gematria of the three letter root in Hebrew is 272.
The three letter word for Arab in the Hebrew language (which translates, evening) uses the same three letters, only re-arranged. Their numerical value by gematria is also 272.
The message is plain and simple: “Harmony” is the natural birthright not only of the inhabitants of the Middle east, but also for people from all over the world. Let’s rededicate ourselves to harmony in human relations. To this end a suggest using the wisdom of the ancients. We could even refurbish some of the still standing sights of antiquity to focus on what we all have in common.
My Book, The Sacred Engineers’ Philosophy- the Pinnacle of Thought in the Unified Culture of Ancient Builders, above was placed inside a carved triangle at the south temple at Tarxien. It defines the megalithic yard of 2.72 feet. In the same vein as the above triangle that defines one megalithic yard of 2.72 feet; the more modern building, the old Hatfield House in England has a length two hundred and seventy-two feet; or 100 megalithic yards.
Was Bowling Invented by the Ancient Greeks? When dots are substituted for these for these 10 bowling pins, their arrangement in ancient Greece was called the “tetraktys”. Note the dots in the triangle over his head of Pythagoras in the picture. He lived from 569 BC up to somewhere between 500 and 475 BC and described the 10 dots of the tetraktys as follows: “It is both a mathematical and physical symbol that embraces within itself the principles of the natural world, the harmony of the cosmos, the ancient ascent to the divine, and the mysteries of the divine realm” (Quote from The Illustrated Signs and Symbols Sourcebook by Adelle Nozedar).
HOW THE ANCIENT GREEKS USED THE BOWLING PIN ARRANGEMENT
Here’s how it ties into music: The two to one relationship of the 1st three pins represents the vibration ratio of the musical octave. Pins 2 and 3 to 4, 5, and 6 expresses the ratio of the musical fifth. Finally, rows three to four, being to 4,5,6 to the 7,8,9, and 10 pins, are the vibration ratio of the perfect fourth. Here is the crux: The musical intervals of the octave, fifth and fourth are the most perfect and fundamental overtones of nature. If you work at building your civilization on the bowling pin idea, you have an harmonious and well functioning society. The thought behind this being that same ratios that please our ears through sound, also please our eyes by sight. The perfect harmony in your surroundings helps to make the person who lives in such a society happier, and more content. We need to follow the path of peace.
What was in the music of King David? Key concepts of Judaism.
It used an ancient standard of musical tuning that was also known to the Greeks. It is called by diatonic scale; defined and documented by Issac Asimov and Guy Murchie.
The dimensions of a universal temple plan were used the by tones of David’s diatonic scale. In terms of numbers of vibrations per second these tones were translated into numbers of measurement used by the masons. David tuned his lyre to these tones. Basic units have varied from culture to culture; but the numbers had to stay true to the numbers of the vibrations/second.
The opening 12 words of Judaism’s most sacred prayer, referred to as the Shema Yisrael, forms the basis of the blueprint that was used by King David in planning the Holy Temple, actualized by Solomon. Hebrew, as other Middle Eastern languages, uses gematria. This is a Greek term describing how the same symbol that represents a letter, also represents a number. Most languages, like English, use separate letter and number systems. In Hebrew every word, phrase, sentence etc. has a numerical equivalent. Those knowledgeable in Hebrew can and I’m sure will, double check my figures.
The key to the entire system is the two last words of Deuteronomy 6:3 that translates to “milk and honey.”: חָלָב, וּדְבָשׁ. Their gematria is 352 which defines the vibrations per second the diatonic tone “F”. The message is this: If you follow the Law by seeking the unity of Creation with our Creator, all the lands will flow not only with music, but with “milk and honey.”
THE TREASURE THAT IS HIDDEN JUDAISM’S MOST SACRED PRAYER
The circumference around each of the 7 smaller circles that have a diameter of 352 is 1106. The Shema’s 0pening 6 words (the 1st 6 words of Deuteronomy 6:4) as it is spelled in Hebrew prayer book uses the double yud for the name of the Creator, making the total 1106. It is less by 12 than the Hebrew spelling in the Torah as you will see below.
בָּרוּךְ שֵׁם כְּבוֹד מַלְכוּתוֹ לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד – “Blessed be the name of His glorious kingdom for ever and ever” (these words are not found in the Torah, but is the standard six word congregational reply upon hearing the 1st 6 words). These six words total 1358. First, 358, besides being the Hebrew gematria of Messiah, defines the harmony of the third, fifth and octave to the initial tone; thus, 1358 defines the full four note musical chord.
1358 + 1106 (again, the prayer book spelling of the Shema in the Siddur) = 2464, using in the 12 inch foot, totals the perimeter around the Holy Temple. This is confirmed by the recent find of an imitation temple, built by the Samaritans, whose foundations were measured and found in the town of Nablus. The perimeter around the inner rectangle by number in the picture below (MSPJ) is (610 + 352) x 2 = 1924. That matches the perimeter around the imitation foundations of the temple.
As spelled in the Torah, with the sacred 4 letter name of our Creator, the declaration of the One God totals 1118.
4 Hear, O Israel: the LORD our God, the LORD is one.
At the turn of the 1900’s a Canon of Measures was discovered by Jay Hambridge. It is based on the diagonal drawn from the upper corner of a square that bisects the base in half. This diagonal is 1.118 times longer than any of the square’s sides. Hambridge demonstrated how this 1.118 “half” diagonal forms the basis of measure of major ancient civilizations such as the Egyptian remen, Palestinian cubit, Roman pace, megalithic yard and the British yard. The Ruler, being the One God, literally rules, or in this case meaning- He measures, by the staff of the opening 6 words of the Shema.
For examples of musical diatonic tones represented by numbers in the above illustration we have: D to G which represents diatonic “C” 264. (NO) + (MP) = 880 which is an octave higher than 440. Then DG (264) + NO (528) = 792 which is the diatonic tone “F”. One begins to see how music, architecture, harmony and religion are part of the the same pattern. Moral of the story: Where there is unity, there is peace. Perhaps this concept can help?
